In further visions, the wetlander nations, but not the Aiel, are held by the Dragon's Peace with the Seanchan. The Aiel have grown restless. It is said that Rand never seemed a part of them. Rand didn't have a plan for them after the Last Battle. Aviendha's children, who were born able to channel and who constantly hold the Power, use their influence among the Aiel to convince the clan chiefs to go to war with the Seanchan. Aviendha's daughter Padra, who feels superior to others because of her ability, feels conflicted about the war even though it was she who suggested it. She knows that it has been said that the Aiel should return to the Three-Fold Land after the Last Battle, but feels that this would make the Aiel irrelevant, and they would vanish. In future years, the Seanchan seem to ignore the Dragon's Peace because the Dragon knelt to the Empress as an inferior. They have laid siege to Rhuidean. Aviendha's granddaughter Oncala is arrogant, feeling that she should rule instead of the Raven Empire because of her Dragon lineage. The Aiel's relationship with Andor is strained even though the Queen also is of the Dragon's line. Oncala and clan chief Heyhal mislead Andor into thinking that the Seanchan plan to attack, hoping to make the wetland nations go to war with the Seanchan. The war with the Seanchan stretches over lifetimes. The White Tower has fallen, and the Seanchan have taken Rhuidean, leaving them unsure of how to choose new leaders. Aviendha's descendant Ladalin decides that the Aiel must retreat to the Waste rather than become the Seanchan's slaves, even though the Seanchan have promised to hunt them down. The other three lines of the Dragon's descendants have been killed off. The war with the Seanchan went bad when the wetland nations fell to the Seanchan, who then took their channelers captive. The Black Tower fell, but the Asha'man still fight the Seanchan in secret. Aviendha emerges from the columns at night, sure that she has seen visions of the future. The pillars no longer work for her. She has no way to know if the future that she saw can be changed, but she knows that she must still try. Before returning to the Wise Ones, she will run through the Three-Fold Land to contemplate. ← Previous Chapter Next Chapter →
