In the wolf dream, Perrin encounters a man who is there in the flesh, known to the wolves as Slayer. Slayer disappears into a tall, metal tower far to the north.

Perrin meets a woman with an intricate blonde braid. She says that the tower leads to the realm of the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn, upon whom the game of Snakes and Foxes is based. The game can only be won by breaking the rules.
