13. Towers of Midnight - Chapter 38 - Wounds - Chapter Summary

Egwene kills Katerine, who was disguised as Mesaana. A collar fastens around Egwene's neck and Mesaana takes her to a doorless room. Overcoming panic, Egwene wills the collar off of her neck.

Mesaana attempts to force Egwene to her will, but Egwene is stronger. After a standoff, Egwene breaks Mesaana's mind. She takes Mesaana to the upper floors, where the Wise Ones say that a Dreamer who suffered a similar fate was never able to speak or care for herself again. Egwene and the others awaken.

In the nightmare, Perrin stabs Slayer in the stomach, then seizes the dreamspike and destroys it in a pool of lava. Hopper tells Perrin to flee and seek Boundless for further instruction. Hopper dies.

Lacking the Healing skill to fully Heal Gawyn, Egwene bonds him as Warder to save his life, saying that she truly wants him as her Warder, and wants him to be her husband as well.

Perrin awakens and has the Asha'man take everyone to Whitebridge.

Graendal tells her servant to spring the trap even though Perrin has escaped. She knows that the blade will fall when she can get Perrin at the center of a tempest.
