Egwene is ordered to attend Elaida at dinner with Meidani, who is a rebel sister sent to spy on the Tower. Elaida clearly knows that Meidani is a spy, and has simply been toying with her.

Elaida wants to add an oath to the Three Oaths that enforces obedience to the Amyrlin. Overcome with rage, Egwene spills soup to stop herself from vocalizing her anger.

As she and Meidani scrub the carpet, Egwene convinces Meidani to summon Egwene later so they can work together to heal the Tower.

Later, Egwene realizes that she should focus on strengthening the Tower rather than undermining Elaida, who will clearly cause her own downfall.
