As he prepares to go to Egwene to become her Warder, he learns of the meeting in Tel'aran'rhiod and fears that the Seanchan assassin will strike tonight. He goes to the Tower by a gateway, which closes too soon and almost injures him. After learning of the attack, Egwene orders the women to wake, but they cannot, and they notice a violet dome covering the city. Gawyn notices hidden Bloodknives in Egwene's bedchamber. They lock Gawyn in the room with them. Slayer takes the dreamspike from Perrin. Hopper and Perrin pursue. Egwene encounters Perrin and is unable to send him away because of his control over the dream. A woman shoots balefire at them, but Perrin wills it out of existence, to Egwene's amazement. Perrin departs after receiving a sending of intense pain from Hopper. Gawyn manages to kill the Bloodknives after an intense battle. He passes out from loss of blood. Mesaana places a weave on Katerine, ordering her to capture Egwene. Though Slayer has the dreamspike, he intends to kill Perrin to prevent him from pursuing.
