Verin admits to being Black Ajah, but she became one to study the Dark One and one day betray the Shadow.

She drank poisoned tea to take advantage of the loophole in the oath to the Shadow that forbids betrayal "until the hour of my death."

Verin gives Egwene an encrypted book, and a book containing the cipher. It contains all the information she learned about the Dark One and his followers. It includes a bookmark ter'angreal that makes the books invisible.

Verin dies. After confirming her death, Egwene deciphers the list of Black Aes Sedai. Egwene asks Meidani to take Verin's body out of the Tower by gateway.

In Tel'aran'rhiod, Egwene tells Siuan of the list of Black sisters, but she is awakened by the start of the Seanchan attack on the Tower.
