Elayne and Bashere realize that they have been drawn into a trap and must hurry to destroy the Trolloc army that is moving toward Cairhien.

Egwene finds the Wise Ones discussing changing custom to require additional visits to the crystal columns of Rhuidean. They all agree to strictly forbid balefire due to evidence of weakening in the Pattern. They will greatly reduce visits the World of Dreams because of the deterioration also evident within it, and say their goodbyes.

Rand gives Egwene a hair ribbon, and they, too, say their goodbyes. Rand looks at the seals one last time and realizes that they have been replaced with fakes.

Mat finally accepts his role as Prince of the Ravens and goes to meet his generals.
