Egwene and Fortuona have a tense meeting, with Egwene demanding that Fortuona relinquish control of Tremalking and the Sea Folk lands, and Fortuona insisting that Egwene must make an announcement that any woman who wishes to go to Ebou Dar to be collarged must be allowed to, and Fortuona's emissaries who will educate on the benefits of leashing must be allowed into lands not controlled by the Seanchan. Egwene wants her to release any damane who wish to be, and let any who do not wish to be leashed to go free. She says sul'dam are also marath'damane, but Fortuona says that even if it is true, the difference is that sul'dam have a choice of whether to channel or not, and marath'damane don't. Fortuona says her own beliefs will win out and Egwene will be turned over by her own people to be leashed. Mat breaks up the argument. Fortuona agrees to aid Egwene's army. The southern Trolloc army arrives at Cairhien a day before Bashere said they would. Elayne sees evidence that Bashere orchestrated this, so she concludes that he is a Darkfriend, relieves him of duty, and puts him and his wife under guard. She gives orders to try to salvage the situation that Bashere put the army in. ← Previous Chapter Next Chapter →
