Mat has been hanged by a rope hanging from a black, sword-bladed spear on Avendesora. Rand revives Mat, who now has a silver foxhead medallion.

They escape an attack on their way out. It is almost dawn.

The following is a summary of this and the previous chapter, reversed to be in chronological order.

The Age of Legend features advanced technology similar to cars and planes, and people have much longer lifespans. Chora trees are in abundance.

In this era, Aiel, called Da'shain, are servants to the Aes Sedai and follow the Way of the Leaf.

A Da'shain called Charn serves an Aes Sedai called Mierin, who has discovered a source of Power usable by both men and women, which she plans to tap with a man named Beidomon. Later, Charn witnesses a floating sphere called the Sharom drill into a structure called the Collam Daan: this is the Bore being drilled into the Dark One's prison.

Mierin becomes known as Lanfear. The War of the Shadow begins. Artur Hawkwing's soldiers wear insect-like armor.

Aiel continue their usual lives, singing with Ogier while Nym weave their songs to bring plants to life.

Lews Therin seals the Bore and traps most Forsaken, resulting in the taint on sai'din.

The female Aes Sedai make plans to protect the world from the now-insane male Aes Sedai, securing Callandor, giving instructions to Someshta--the last Nym, later known as the Green Man--and asking the Aiel to take all forms of angreal to safety.

Increasingly at the mercy of bandits, some Aiel give up their duty to Aes Sedai and become the Tuatha'an. The warrior Aiel split off when a group of boys accidentally kills men in defense. They take up spears because they have uses beyond killing. Their families disown them and make them veil their faces.

The Aiel War takes place.

The warrior Aiel help the few remaining Da'shain--known as the Jenn Aiel--get across the Spine of the World, where they form Rhuidean. Two aged Aes Sedai with the Jenn say that the Aiel will follow the Dragon Reborn.
