Gawyn secretly uses a Bloodknife ring to help Egwene escape, and Leilwin rescues her from a Sharan channeler. They join Domon, and Egwene skims them to the White Tower.

Aviendha leads the attack on Thakan'dar, and they seize the valley. At her signal, Rand, Nynaeve, and Moiraine arrive by gateway at the entrance to the Pit of Doom. Aviendha kills Duhara and Falion, but a third, unrecognized woman escapes.

Thom will guard the cavern entrance. Rand's wound opens, fulfilling the prophecy of his blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghul. He asks Moiraine and Nynaeve to join him in a circle that he will lead, even though with Callandor this will make him vulnerable to being taken control of. A voice speaks to him, telling him that it is time. He walks into the Pit of Doom.
