Elayne orders the evacuation and destruction of Fal Dara and other nearby cities and villages. Bashere proposes that Elayne's forces retreat across the river toward Cairhien. Elayne agrees, but knows that they will need to stop retreating eventually so they can join forces with Lan and Egwene.

Perrin feels Rand's pull and knows that he will need to go to him, so he names Tam a lord and makes him steward of the Two Rivers, putting him in charge of his armies. Before Perrin departs, Bornhald admits that Ordeith killed Perrin's family, not Trollocs.
