Ituralde struggles against a strange desire to abandon tactics and use an all out assault instead. An army of Myrddraal attacks, and a voice tells him to pull back the attack, but he struggles against it, knowing it is wrong. Before he can give the order against his will, wolves attack the Myrddraal, and Elyas knocks Ituralde off the ledge. Ituralde is grateful at having been prevented from ordering the retreat. Egwene reflects on Mat saving someone from drowning during their childhood in the Two Rivers, and reluctantly admits to herself that she does trust him. She sends Gawyn to check on Elayne. Egwene tracks down Bryne and summons the hall. Just as they arrive, Gawyn returns bearing news that Bashere is a Darkfriend. Egwene and the hall confront Bryne about his apparently traitorous tactics. He admits that something is wrong. Egwene concludes that he has been compelled and so have the other great captains. The hall relieves Bryne of duty and Egwene reluctantly decides to give control to Mat. ← Previous Chapter Next Chapter →
