Katerine tells Egwene that she is to spend all of her time doing chores from now on. Later, Laras offers to smuggle her out of the Tower, but she refuses.

Egwene is required to attend Elaida at dinner. The Sitters that Egwene has been working to influence are there.

Egwene has a verbal debate with Elaida, who ultimately flies into a rage, attacking Egwene with the Power. One of the Sitters observes that this is a violation of Tower law by using the Power to harm an initiate.

Elaida says that Egwene is to be jailed, named a Darkfriend, and ultimately executed.
