Verin finds the Toman Head symbol on the Portal Stone. Rand channels and experiences alternate possibilities of his life, in each of which the Seanchan overrun the land, Rand goes mad and begins to rot, and at each death a voice whispers "I have won again, Lews Therin."

When the alternate lives stop, they are at Toman Head in late autumn, though it was summer when they left. The others lived alternate lives as well.
