A guide to completing the first Hand Trap level in World 8 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 8 Hand Trap 1

In this level, there is a Fire Brother on the first bridge. He spits fireballs that bounce along the bridge toward you. Stomp on him or just jump over him.

Next, there are two Hammer Bros and two platforms of bricks. The Hammer Bros can jump up and down, changing which platforms they are on, and they will throw hammers at you. There is a wall to their right. You can hit them with a fireball, or jump up to hit the brick they're standing on, or stomp them to defeat them. After they're gone, you can hit the third brick from the right in the bottom row of bricks to get a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf, and you can hit the two rightmost bricks in the bottom row to get one coin each. You can also hit the rightmost brick in the top row to get a coin.

Get on top of the top row of bricks and go to the right. There will be a Boomerang Brother, followed by a Sledge Brother. The Sledge Brother will make the ground shake whenever he lands after jumping, so try to jump before he lands to avoid getting stunned by the shaking ground.

To the right of the Sledge Brother, there is a pipe. Go up it and open the chest to get a Super Leaf.

After the Level

When you go to the left, there is a 50% chance that a hand will pull you into the middle trap when you walk on it, and a 50% chance that a hand will pull you into the left trap when you walk on it. If you aren't pulled into the trap, you can either continue to the left if you don't want to do the level, or you can press A while standing on the trap if you do want to do the level. There are two remaining Hand Trap levels, World 8 Hand Trap 2 and World 8 Hand Trap 3.

If you get past all the Hand Traps, you can continue to the World 8 Airship.
