A guide to completing World 4-4 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 4-4

There is a Lakitu in the sky that will drop Spiny Eggs into the water. Go past the coral and go to the right to find a ? Block. Don't hit it if you're wearing the Frog Suit. If you're not wearing the Frog Suit, you can hit it to get a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower.

If you're not wearing the Frog Suit, just go above where the ? Block was, then go right and down a long vertical tunnel. Then go to the right and you will find a pipe after some coral. Then skip ahead to The Pipe After the Coral. If you're wearing the Frog Suit, you can go left and down to find a pipe that has bubbles coming up from it. The pipe will push you upward if you try to go past, but with the Frog Suit, you can swim so you're to the right of that pipe, then quickly swim left and down while you're just above the top of the pipe. The Frog Suit lets you go quickly enough to get past the upward pressure and reach the pipe beyond. Go up that pipe to reach a hidden area.

Hidden Area

Go to the right and go up into the area with the brick. Hit the brick, then hit the P Switch and collect all the blue coins that appear.

Then go to the right, and before you enter the next area, hit the brick in the platform to make another P Switch appear. Go up and carefully jump so you collect a coin without hitting a brick, and land on the P Switch. Jump up through the gap in the bricks to collect all the coins above. When the P Switch wears off, collect any remaining coins.

Go to the right and go up the pipe to exit the hidden area.

The Pipe After the Coral

There is a Lakitu in the sky above this pipe, so beware of Spiny Eggs from above. Go to the right and you will pass by another pipe that has bubbles coming up from it.

Go to the right, and when you pass by some coral, another Lakitu will appear in the sky. Keep going to the right while dodging Spiny Eggs, then go through the pipe at the rightmost end of the area.

Go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

You might now be able to reach one of the Hammer Bros. The Hammer Bros in this part of the map give a Starman and a P Wing.

You can now visit the second Toad House of World 4, where you have a chance of getting a Super Mushroom, a Fire Flower, or a Super Leaf.

You can now visit World 4-5 or World 4-6.
