A guide to completing World 7-8 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 7-8

Go to the right, past a Piranha Plant in a pipe, and hit the ? Blocks beneath the two Venus Fire Traps in the pipes.

If you can fly, you can optionally go back to the left, then use that area to gain momentum to fly up and to the right. There is a row of ? Blocks above some Wood Blocks that you land on to get coins. Afterward, fall down from the right side of the Wood Blocks and land on the bricks below, and skip the next paragraph.

If you didn't fly, then go to the right and jump over the pipe with the Piranha Plant in it, then jump on top of the next Piranha Plant pipe, and carefully jump to the next pipe when the two Piranha Plants have gotten out of the way. Do the same to jump onto the next pipe.

Hit the leftmost ? Block to get a Starman. Then get rid of the Venus Fire Trap to the right, and go down to the lower row of bricks and hit the leftmost one if you want a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

Then go right, past two Piranha Plants and a Venus Fire Trap, and a Walking Piranha on the bricks. Hit the fourth brick from the left to get a 1UP Mushroom.

Go to the right, where there is a Ptooie walking back and forth with a spiked ball above it, and a Piranha Plant coming from the pipe above.

If you can't fly, skip this paragraph. If you can fly, break all the bricks on the left, then use your tail to get rid of the Ptooie. Then run to the left and start flying straight up, and land on top of the pipe that the Piranha Plant was coming down from. Hit the brick repeatedly, as quickly as you can, to get coins. Then fall off of the right side of the pipe and go straight down.

Stand on the white platform, just to the right of the pipe, and jump straight up to reveal a hidden Magic Note Block. Jump on it and press the jump button at the right moment, and you will be launched into a secret area in the sky. Collect the coins in the sky area, then go to the right and go down the pipe.

Fall straight down and you will land near two bricks. Hit the right brick repeatedly, as quickly as you can, to get coins.

Jump on top of the bricks, and avoid the Ptooie. If you want a Hammer Suit, skip this paragraph. If you decided not to get the Hammer Suit, go to the right, past the Ptooie and Venus Fire Trap, and the Walking Piranha below. To the right, jump on the pipe when the Piranha Plant has gone down, then go to the right and try to run across the bridge, and make a running jump from the last segment of the bridge to reach the pipe when the Piranha Plant has gone down it. Then jump across the gap to land on the pipe on the right. Skip the next paragraph.

If you do want a Hammer Suit, go down the first pipe that is after the brick that you hit to get coins. It leads to a Mega ? Block that contains a Hammer Suit. Then go to the right and go up the pipe.

Go to the right and there is a Piranha Plant with a spiked ball above it. Get past it, and beware of the Ptooie that is walking back and forth to the right. After that, there is a Venus Fire Trap in a pipe.

After the pipe, there is a Walking Piranha on the ground, as well as a Fiery Walking Piranha on the first row of bricks. Beware of the fireballs that the Fiery Walking Piranha spits out. Try to hit it with a hammer or fireballs, or just hit the brick beneath it to get rid of it. Then hit the top middle brick to get a 1UP.

Then go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

You can go to the nearby Toad House for a chance to get a Frog Suit, a Tanooki Suit, or a Hammer Suit.

Otherwise, you can optionally go to World 7-7 and the Spade House if you haven't already.

Then continue on to World 7-9.
