A guide to completing World 4-5 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 4-5

Go to the right and jump over the gap, but watch out for the Green Giant Koopa Troopa and a Colossal Koopa Paratroopa coming down from the pyramid. On the right side of the Pyramid, use a Koopa Shell to hit the Mega ? Block or the brick on the right side of the pyramid. The Mega ? Block contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

After the gap, there is a pipe with a Piranhacus Giganticus going up and down. After that, there are some cannons that shoot Bullet Bills, but the flashing Bullet Bills are called Missile Bills, and they will turn around if they go past you. They only turn around once, so just dodge them until they go away, or stomp them to get rid of them.

Carefully hit the ? Blocks above the Bullet Bills. The middle ? Block in the group on the left contains a Fire Flower, and the rest contain one coin each.

Next, there is a cannon on a wooden platform. If you want to reach the coins up above, you need a Bullet Bill from the tall cannon on the left. Stomp on that Bullet Bill and keep holding the jump button to reach the coins.

There is another Piranhacus Giganticus, then a wooden platform, then a pipe with a regular Piranha Plant. After that, there are a lot of cannons, the tallest of which will shoot Missile Bills. To the left of the tallest cannon, there is a hidden brick that contains a coin.

Before you move on, stomp on a Missile Bill to hit the brick above the second-tallest cannon, then stomp on another Missile Bill to stand on top of the brick that you hit. A vine grew out of that brick, so press Up to start climbing. At the top, you find a pipe. Jump and press Up to go up that pipe.

In the hidden room, don't hit the regular bricks. First hit the Mega ? Block to get a Tanooki Suit. This rare suit gives you the same abilities as Raccoon Mario but also allows you to temporarily turn into an invincible statue. To do so, press Down and the run button at the same time. As a statue, you can stomp on enemies, including enemies that you normally can't defeat, such as Roto-Discs.

Now that you have the Tanooki Suit, step on the P Switch and collect the coins that appear, then quickly go down the pipe. Outside, you will see some blue coins. Quickly jump, then tap the jump button repeatedly to fall through as many of the blue coins as you can reach before the P Switch wears off. At the bottom, you will have to dodge Missile Bills to try to get the last of the coins.

Then go to the right, past another Piranhacus Giganticus and a cannon, to reach the pipe that leads to the end of the level. Go through, then go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

Next, you can optionally go to the Spade House. Then you can either go to World 4-6, or the second fortress of World 4.
