A guide to completing World 8-1 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 8-1

If you can fly, run to the right and then fly straight up to find a P Switch on a Wood Block. Step on it, then fall back down, and fly around to get all the coins that appeared.

Go to the right and hit the ? Block to get a coin. Jump on top of the block and dodge the Venus Fire Trap's fireballs, then jump on its pipe. The ? Block to the right contains a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower.

If you can fly, go back to the start of the level and run until you can fly to the right. Fly on top of the tall pipe after the Piranha Plant pipes, and go down the pipe to reach an underground area with a Mega ? Block that contains three 1UPs. Then skip ahead to After the Mega Block.

If you can't fly, jump onto the pipe after the ? Block when the Piranha Plant goes down, and jump to the next pipe when the Venus Fire Trap goes down, and jump onto the next pipe when the Piranha Plant goes down.

Then fall down the right side while moving toward the right, to land on the ground below. Then go right and hit the second brick from the left in the lower row of bricks to get one coin, then hit the second brick from the left in the upper row, quickly and repeatedly, until it stops giving you coins.

After that, there are cannons shooting Bullet Bills. Try to reach the ? Block between the two sets of cannons to get a Starman. Then jump on the block, jump on top of the second set of cannons, and jump down to the ground on the right.

Beware of the Bullet Bills as you go to the right. Hit the ? Block above the cannon to get a 1UP Mushroom. The rest of the ? Blocks contain one coin each. If you're tall, crouch to avoid the Bullet Bills from the right.

Slide/run under the cannon. The brick after it contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. Beware of the Boo ghost above that brick.

Go to the right and jump up the platforms, but don't let the Red Koopa Troopa hit you. Hit the two ? Blocks at the top to get one coin from each. Then go to the right. The ? Block also contains one coin. Then jump on that block, and jump on top of the Venus Fire Trap's pipe when it goes down.

After the Mega Block

After the pipe, there is a Paratroopa and a Bullet Bill cannon. Get past the Paratroopa and jump on top of the cannon, and crouch to avoid the lower of the two Bullet Bills on the right. Stomp on the Red Paratroopa or one of the Bullet Bills to get on top of the cannons on the right.

Next, there are four coins down below, and there is also a hidden coin block that contains one coin, above the third bush from the right, but you will have to dodge the Bullet Bill to hit it.

To the right, there is a Green Koopa Troopa and a Note Block. Bounce on the Note Block, then bounce on a Bullet Bill to reach the pipe (the Note Block itself doesn't let you jump far enough), then make a running jump to the next pipe when the Piranha Plant goes down.

Then run to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

Go left and then down to reach the next level, World 8-2.
