A guide to completing World 2-5 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 2-5

To the right, there is a Chain Chomp, which charges toward you but is held back by the chain. Don't get too close. You can safely touch the chain.

The second ? block contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

After a pile of blocks, there is another Chain Chomp, followed by some wooden blocks and bricks. There is a Red Koopa Troopa on top of the bricks. The bottom-most wooden block contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. You can hit the wooden block with the Koopa Shell, or just bump into it from the side.

To the right, there is a gap, followed by some orange blocks, with a Chain Chomp at the bottom, and four Goombas.

Then there are a bunch of wooden blocks with a small pool of water, followed by a couple of Red Koopa Troopas. Stomp on one of them and kick the shell at the ? block to get a coin.

Next, you will see some bricks in a pit down below. Go to the right and stomp the Red Koopa Troopa, and kick its shell to the left so it falls into the pit. It will break the bricks and make a vine grow from the bottom-left brick. Walk onto the vine and press Up to climb up it. You'll reach some clouds with coins over them. Go to the left go get all the coins, then go down the pipe at the left side.

In this room, if you're small, hit the bottom right brick (the one nearest to the pipe) to get a Super Mushroom. Stand next to the lowest brick, jump up to break the brick above you, then stand on the lowest brick and jump to reveal a P Switch. Step on the switch and collect all the coins. If you didn't hit the bottom-right brick already, you'll have to jump and hit the bottom-right coin from beneath because it is really a brick that contains a Super Leaf.

When you're done, go down the pipe to exit the hidden area. You'll end up on some floating orange blocks. To the right, make a short jump up so you land on the orange blocks above the one you're standing on. Then you can go to the right and hit the ? blocks to get three coins and a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

Go down below, then go to the right, but beware of the Chain Chomp that is beneath the Goal Block. Hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

If the Hammer Bro is reachable, you can defeat him to get a Hammer. You can stand next to a rock on the World Map and use the Hammer to destroy the rock, but don't do that unless you have cleared World 2-4, which will allow you to go to the upper-right corner of the map and use the Hammer there to reveal a hidden path. The hidden path leads to a Toad House where you can get a rare Frog Suit (all three treasure chests contain the Frog Suit). The Frog Suit makes you always hop on land, lets you jump very high, and lets you swim very quickly in water. There is also a Hammer Bro in this hidden area, which is actually two Fire Brothers. Defeat them to get a Warp Whistle.

You can optionally go to the Spade House to play the slot machine for extra lives.

Otherwise, you can now go to World 2-4 if you haven't cleared it yet, or the World 2 Pyramid. If you have already cleared the Pyramid, you can continue on to the World 2 Airship.
