World 2-4

A guide to completing World 2-4 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 2-4

Go to the right and stomp the Para-Goomba, and hit the ? block to get a coin. If you're Raccoon Mario, you can get a lot of coins by going to the right, then running to the left and flying up through the bricks in the ceiling. This upper area has a lot of coins. Skip ahead to Upper Area.

If you're not Raccoon Mario, then stomp on a Red Koopa Troopa and kick it so that it ricochets between the two sets of wooden blocks. It will hit the ? block in the middle and make a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf come out. If you're still not Raccoon Mario, go to the right, past the second wooden block column, then stomp the Red Koopa Troopa and use its shell to hit the ? block on the right. You'll get a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. If you're Raccoon Mario now, you can go back to the start of the level and run to the left and fly up through the bricks in the ceiling to reach the upper level. Skip ahead to Upper Area.

If you would rather continue along the lower level at this point, you will encounter a Boomerang Bro, a Green Paratroopa, a Red Koopa Troopa, some coins, another Boomerang Bro, a ? block with a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf in it, a Venus Fire Trap in a pipe, and finally, another Boomerang Bro.

At this point, you can collect the coins in the gaps, then stand on the leftmost platform and run to the right to fill your P-Meter, then fly up and to the left to reach the upper area. Read the paragraphs in Upper Area in backward order.

Upper Area

On the left side of the upper area, there is a pool of water with a Green Cheep-Cheep in it. First, collect the coins above the bricks, then get in the water and hit the third brick to the right of the hole in the center, to reveal a P Switch. Jump on the switch and collect as many coins above the water as you can.

To the right of the water, there are a bunch of coins between palm trees.

There are some bricks with palm trees on top. All of these bricks contain coins. As Raccoon Mario, you can go to the left, then run and fly so you hit all the bricks as you go to the right. Then you should get the coins above those bricks. After the bricks, there are two Red Paratroopas.

At the right side of the upper area, there are coins with bricks on top. Go to the right side. To the left of the rightmost brick, hit the upper brick to reveal a P Switch. Step on it and collect the coins that are now on top of each brick. After the P Switch wears off, collect the remaining coins.

After the Upper Area

To the right of the upper area, there are Note Blocks in the sky. The rightmost block contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

Go down below and run to the right to reach the end of the level, but beware of the Boomerang Bro near the Goal Block. Hit the Goal Block to finish the level.

After the Level

If the Hammer Bro is reachable, you can defeat him to get a Hammer. Then go to the upper-right corner of the map and use the Hammer there to reveal a hidden path. The hidden path leads to a Toad House where you can get a rare Frog Suit (all three treasure chests contain the Frog Suit). The Frog Suit makes you always hop on land, lets you jump very high, and lets you swim very quickly in water. There is also a Hammer Bro in this hidden area, which is actually two Fire Brothers. Defeat them to get a Warp Whistle.

You can now go to World 2-5 or the World 2 Pyramid.
