World 3-5

A guide to completing World 3-5 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 3-5

If you used a P Wing before you started this level, you can fly overhead, but be sure to hit the bricks on top of the wooden blocks to get some extra coins. Then when you reach the rightmost wall, get in the water and go into the pipe on the right to reach the end of the level, where you can hit the Goal Block.

Otherwise, go down into the water, where you will see a Jelectro. This enemy does not move, but its body is electrified, so if you hit it, you get hurt. Keep going downward, past a Green Cheep-Cheep, to get three coins.

To the right, there is a red fish known as Big Bertha. She swims from side to side, and sometimes spits out a Baby Cheep. There are some ? blocks above Big Bertha, as well as a few regular bricks. The leftmost ? block contains a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower, and the rest each contain a coin. The bricks also each contain a coin.

To the right of the bricks, there is a pipe with bubbles going up. It will push you upward when you go past. If you still need the Fire Flower from the left, go get it, then go to the right.

There is a Bloober between a couple of Jelectros. Lure it to the left, then swim under the lower of the two Jelectros, and swim up the right side of it to get past the Bloober.

After the little grey hill, go downward to get six coins, but beware of the Green Cheep-Cheep there.

Then when you go to the right, there is a pipe up above that is pushing bubbles downward. Go downward from that pipe to find four coins.

Go right from the two lowest coins, and you will reach 7 coins.

To the right of those coins, there is a pipe. Go down that pipe but push toward the right so you land on a ledge next to a Mega ? Block. Hit the block to get three 1UP Mushrooms. Then go to the left to fall through the remaining coins, then go to the right and into the pipe.

Go left so you're beneath the right side of the pipe hanging down, then swim upward to reveal a hidden block with a 1UP Mushroom in it. (If the mushroom doesn't appear, go farther downward, then upward again to hit the brick.)

If you want a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower, swim to the left, past a couple of grey hills, to find three ? Blocks. Hit the middle one to get the Fire Flower, then swim to the right, past the two hills again.

Go to the right and up from the pipe that is pushing bubbles downward, and get the three coins you find there. But beware of the Bloober with kids that is swimming around here. Try to get it to swim downward onto a Jelectro to make it temporarily stop swimming, then carefully navigate your way around the Jelectros so you can go to the right and down, where there are three coins.

Then you can either go upward and swim past two Jelectros to go to the right, or you can go downward and swim past a Big Bertha that spits out a Baby Cheep. Either way, go to the right, past a Green Cheep-Cheep, to reach the pipe that leads to the end of the level. Go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

If the bridges are down, you can now reach the second Toad House, where you have a chance of getting a Fire Flower, a Super Leaf, or a Frog Suit.

If you got a Hammer from the Hammer Bros, you can use it on the boulder that is blocking your path to a rowboat on the right. You can use the rowboat to reach an island with two Toad Houses (where you have a chance of getting a Fire Flower, a Super Leaf, or a Frog Suit) and two pade Games, and a third Toad House to the east, where you have a chance of getting a Super Mushroom, a Fire Flower, or a Super Leaf. You can optionally row even farther east to see the castle of this world, but there's no way to land there with the rowboat.

When you're ready to move on, you can visit World 3-4 or World 3-6.
