A guide to completing World 6-1 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 6-1

As you go to the right, beware that the ground is slippery. There are some ice block platforms that are also slippery. The ? Block contains a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower, but if you're Raccoon Mario, you might not want to take the Fire Flower yet.

In the pipe to the right, there is a Ptooie. It has a spiked ball floating up and down above its mouth. You can stand on top of the normal bricks and make a running jump over it when the spiked ball is near the Ptooie.

Door in the Sky

After that, there are three coins, and then a Ptooie that walks back and forth. If you're Raccoon or Tanooki Mario, you can hit it with your tail to get rid of it, then go to the left pipe and run to the right to build up your P Meter, then fly upward from near the right pipe to find a door in the sky. Go in and jump onto the upper level of ice blocks, and run and crouch to slide through the narrow gaps. Step on the P Switch at the end, then run and slide back to the left and try to go all the way to the right before the P Switch wears off. Once you have made a tunnel through the coins, you can collect any remaining coins if the P Switch hasn't worn off yet. Then you can go to the right and go through the door. You'll fall down near a pipe with a Venus Fire Trap in a pipe. Skip the next paragraph.

After the Door in the Sky

If you didn't go to the door in the sky, just keep going to the right, past a regular Red Piranha Plant in a pipe, which is followed by a ? Block that contains one coin, then a small gap with three coins above it, then a gap with a pipe right after it. There is a Venus Fire Trap in the pipe.

To the right, there are two walking Ptooies, followed by a ? Block with one coin in it.

Next, there is a pipe, followed by some ice block platforms. The ? Block contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. If you couldn't fly to the door in the sky earlier, you can go back to the first pipe in the level, and re-read the Door in the Sky section.

Otherwise, in the area with ice block platforms, after the ? Block that contained a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf, there are three coins, a walking Ptooie on the ground, a Red Para-Goomba, and another walking Ptooie. After that, there is a Ptooie in a pipe, a short gap, and the end of the level. Hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

You can optionally visit the Spade House for a chance to get 1UPs.

Then you can visit World 6-2 or World 6-3.
