A guide to completing World 7-6 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 7-6

Go to the right and go through the door.

Go to the left, past the edge of the screen, and you will appear on the right side of the screen. Go up the stairs, but watch out for the Green Koopa Troopas that come down the stairs, and get the coins on the way.

Near the top of the stairs, there are two ? Blocks that each contain one coin.

At the top of the stairs, go left to wrap around to the right side of the screen. Jump on the Donut Lifts and Note Block to get the three coins, then jump onto the Directional Lift (with an exclamation mark on it). When you jump on it, your ghost platform will change direction. It starts by going Up, then with each jump, it cycles through Left, Up, Right, Up, and then repeats that pattern. So jump on it three times to make it start going to the right. You'll come out from the left side of the screen, where you can try to hit the ? Block, which contains one coin. If your ghost platform disappears, go back to the Directional Lift and jump on it to get a new one.

After you hit the ? Block (or ignore it), you can jump on the ghost platform to make it go up, jump to the left to try to land on the pipe on the other side of the screen that has a ? Block above it. Hit that ? Block, which contains a coin, then jump on top of it, and jump from there onto the Directional Lift up above.

If you want some extra coins, jump onto the row of Donut Lifts and try to hit the third brick from the left repeatedly, as quickly as you can, to get coins from it before it turns into a regular block, but you also need to avoid standing too long on the Donut Lifts.

Next, you can jump on top of the coin brick, and from there onto the Note Block, and bounce from there to get the five coins above.

Then go to the right and jump on the Directional Lift. Try hitting the ? Blocks on the way, but if you get stuck between the ghost platform and the ? Block, the ghost platform will disappear from under you. This ghost platform only goes up.

After the third ? Block, stay on the left side of the Directional Lift and let it take you up to a ? Block that is to the left of the wall of Wood Blocks. Then you need to jump onto the Directional Lift below and to the left. You will need to get back on this Directional Lift after it goes past the pipe on the left, so try to carefully jump on top of that pipe, then as soon as the Piranha Plant is out of the way, go left to land on the Directional Lift, and crouch if you're tall, to reach the pipe on the right side of the screen. Go up it.

Jump onto the Directional Lift above you, and hit the ? Blocks. The fourth from the right contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. Then get on the Directional Lift that goes to the right, but walk of the right side of it to fall down onto the Directional Lift that is between the two walls of Wood Blocks. You will need to travel on it for a while, but it will disappear after a fixed amount of time, so make it go to the left just enough to get past the row of ? Blocks, then make it go up, then to the right until you are above the three rightmost ? Blocks, and make it go up. You will go up through a hole between some Wood Blocks and Spikes.

Jump on the Directional Lift above the spikes to go to the left and hit the two ? Blocks. Then jump onto the Directional Lift that goes up and hit the two ? Blocks above you before the Directional Lift gets too close. Then jump onto the Directional Lift on the right, and crouch if you're tall, to hit the three ? Blocks there. When you come out of the left side of the screen, jump on top of the ? Blocks, hit the two ? Blocks above you, then jump on top of the ? Blocks that you just hit. Jump to the right, onto the Directional Lift, but you can go to the right to hit the ? Block there if you wish. Then jump on top of it and get back on the Directional Lift.

Make it go to the left, far enough that you can stand next to the Wood Block wall as you go up (to avoid the Piranha Plant). To get a 1UP Mushroom, jump up onto the rightmost Wood Block on the left and jump straight up to reveal the 1UP, and quickly jump on top of the block to get the 1UP before it falls. Then jump onto the Directional Lift after it is farther up than the spikes, and the Lift will start going to the right. Jump from the lift to go up the pipe, then go right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

On the world map, go down and into the pipe, then go through the underground passage. From there, you can go to World 7-7 or World 7-8.
