A guide to completing World 4-3 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 4-3

Go to the right and you will encounter your first Sledge Brother. If you are on the ground when the Sledge Bro jumps up and lands on the ground, you will be temporarily stunned, unable to move, so try to jump just before the Sledge Bro hits the ground. The Sledge Bro will throw hammers either high or low, so keep your distance until you're sure where the hammer is going. Stomp on the Sledge Bro to defeat it.

Jump over the brick wall, then you will find a second Sledge Bro. Defeat it the same way as before.

Afterward, you can enter either of the two pipes to continue to the next area.

Underground

Go to the right, and there are two Buzzy Beetles on the ground, and one on the ceiling. The one on the ceiling will fall and quickly move toward you, so jump.

Make a running jump to reach the platform on the right, but be careful of the Buzzy Beetle there. The ? Blocks each contain one coin.

Try to stomp the green Paratroopa when it's in the middle of the four coins so you can collect them all. Bounce from the Paratroopa to the next platform.

There is a Buzzy Beetle on the wooden ceiling above you, so beware of it falling when you get close.

Make a running jump to reach the next platform, where you can hit the ? Block to get a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. Make a running jump to the next platform.

From here, if you're Raccoon Mario, you can reach a hidden area where you can get some coins. First, wait for the Spiny to fall from the ceiling and spin off of the platform. Then go to the right and stomp the Buzzy Beetle, but leave its shell there. Then go back to the left side of the platform, then run to the right until your P Meter fills, then start flying, but move to the left so you don't run into the Paratroopa, and keep flying up to reach a platform up above that has coins on it. Get all the coins, then fall into the gap on the right side.

If you can't reach the area with the coins, you have to go to the right, stomp on the Paratroopa or make a running jump to get over the gap, then go to the right, but watch out for the Spiny that falls from the ceiling and spins toward you, then make a running jump and stomp the Paratroopa to reach the next platform.

There are two Buzzy Beetles on the right, and some wooden blocks above you. If you jump on top of the wooden blocks, you can hit the right and middle bricks to get one coin each, then hit the leftmost brick to make a 1UP Mushroom come out. Go to the right to follow the 1UP Mushroom, but be ready to jump over the Spiny that falls from the ceiling. Then jump onto the brick platform with the Buzzy Beetle on it to get the 1UP before it falls. The bricks don't contain anything, so you can just move on.

Jump onto each platform on the right, but be aware that the wooden blocks will bounce you backward if you touch them. Get the coins floating above, then go to the right and go up the pipe.

Go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

If the Hammer Bro moves into the spot next to you on the map, you can defeat him (it's a Sledge Brother) to get a Lakitu's Cloud.

Then you can move on to the first fortress of World 4.
