A guide to completing the World 5 Airship in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear the World 5 Airship

Go to the right, and there is a cannon that is shooting cannonballs diagonally upward. This is followed by a Jet Engine shooting a flame toward you. Wait for the flame to go away, then jump on top of the Jet Engine.

Next, there are some diagonal cannons in the floor that shoot cannonballs up at you. There is a wooden crate, followed by a ? Block that contains a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower. After that, there is another wooden crate.

After the crate, there is a cannon that shoots Bullet Bills.

Then there are two diagonal cannons, one that shoots downward and to the left, one that shoots downward and to the right.

This is followed by a diagonal cannon in the floor that shoots upward and to the left, a quartet-cannon that shoots two cannonballs in opposite directions each time it rotates, and a diagonal cannon that shoots downward and to the left. Jump on top of the diagonal cannon to jump over the wall to the next area.

There is a cannon on the floor that shoots Bullet Bills, followed by eight diagonal cannons. The upper cannons shoot downward, and the lower cannons shoot upward.

After the eight cannons, there is a final cannon that shoots Bullet Bills.

After that, you can go down the pipe to face the airship boss.

Roy Koopa

Roy makes the ground shake whenever he lands on the ground. If you're on the ground when Roy lands, you'll be temporarily stunned and unable to move, so try to jump before Roy lands. Roy will also shoot magic rings at you with the Magic Wand. Stomp Roy three times to defeat him.

After Roy is defeated, pick up the Magic Wand and you will clear World 5. You'll get a letter from the Princess, who gives you a Lakitu's Cloud (a.k.a. Jugem's Cloud). This can be used on the world map to skip past a level. But if you lose a life after going past a level, you'll be sent back to the area before the level that you skipped with the Lakitu's Cloud. You can avoid this by using a Warp Pipe if there is one in your part of the map, or just by clearing a level.

Now you'll automatically go to World 6. The warp pipe just leads to a dead end, so just go to World 6-1.
