A guide to completing World 7-4 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 7-4

If you're Racoon Mario or Tanooki Mario, or you have the P Wing, you can fly over the wall on the right to reach two bricks, each of which contains a 1UP Mushroom. If you don't have the P Wing, be careful when running back and forth, to avoid entering the pipe, because once you go through it, you can't come back to this screen.

When you're ready, enter the pipe at the beginning of the level.

This level automatically scrolls from right to left. Swim to the right, collect the five coins if you wish, and beware of the Spiny Cheep-Cheeps that swim across the screen. You will pass by a Lava Lotus plant, which spits fireballs.

If you want a Fire Flower, hit the ? Block just after the Lava Lotus plant, and get the Fire Flower before the screen scrolls too far and blocks access to it.

Collect the five coins after the coral, then stay above the next coral to avoid getting stuck in a dead end. Dodge the Big Bertha and Baby Cheep, but be careful of the Bloober with kids soon after the Big Bertha.

Next, you will need to swim through an area full of Jelectro. Avoid these enemies, as well as the Big Bertha and Baby Cheep in this area.

Afterward, avoid the two Bloobers with kids, and you eventually reach a ? Block that contains a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower. Get the four coins after the ? Block, then swim down below the Wood Block at the bottom of the coral, and avoid the Lava Lotus plant just after it.

Swim past the hill and get the four coins while dodging the Big Bertha and Baby Cheep. Go past the Big Bertha when it swims to the left, then go to the right and get the four coins above the Lava Lotus plant. Go into the pipe after the Lava Lotus plant, then go to the right and hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

If you didn't already, you can optionally go to the Spade House for a chance to get 1UPs.

Then you can go to World 7-5 if you haven't already, or you can go left from World 7-4 and enter the pipe, which leads to the first Piranha Plant level of World 7 (where you can get a P Wing) and the first fortress of World 7.
