World 4-6

A guide to completing World 4-6 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 4-6

Go to the right and there is a Colossal Koopa Paratroopa, a Giant Koopa Troopa, and a rectangle of bricks. If you're tall, go to the right side of the rectangle and break all the bricks on the right side, then jump up into the rectangle and hit the rightmost brick above you to make a 1UP Mushroom come out.

Make a running jump to go over the gap and get the four coins. Then go past the Piranhacus Giganticus and you will see a door, along with a Giant Koopa Troopa and two Grand Goombas. If you go through that door, you go to an area that looks identical but has normal-sized enemies. Note that there are 1UPs and hidden coins and power-ups in both versions of this world, so if you want to get everything, you'll need to explore both versions of the world.

If you're Raccoon or Tanooki Mario (see World 4-5 for how to get a Tanooki Suit), go to the right, to where there is a ? Block, then skip to the next paragraph. If you're small, go to the giant version of the world and go to the right from the door to find a ? Block after a pipe. Hit it to get a Super Mushroom. Then you can go back through the door, then go through it again to return to the giant version of the world. When you go to the right, the ? Block will be there again, and now that you're tall, you can get a Super Leaf from the ? Block.

Now that you can fly, go to the right and stomp the Colossal Koopa Paratroopa, then run left and right to fill your P Meter, then fly straight up to find some coins on the clouds. There are five coins on the right and five coins on the left. Then go back down and go through the door to the normal-sized version of the world, and fly up to the clouds like before, but this time, there is also a brick that contains a 1UP Mushroom.

While still in normal-sized world, you can optionally go to the left to return to the rectangle of bricks at the beginning of the level, then hit the third brick from the bottom left to get a Starman.

Go back to giant world and go to the right, where you find that the ? Block just contains one coin instead of a power-up. Keep going to the right, past the Colossal Koopa Paratroopa, and if you bump into the wooden blocks on the right, a Starman will come out. Jump up, go past the Grand Goomba, and get the Starman, but before you go, you should go underneath the bricks and keep rapidly hitting the third block from the left to get several coins.

Then jump up and get the three coins just after the bricks (if you didn't already), go past the first Piranhacus Giganticus, then go down between the pipes stomp the Giant Koopa Troopa and pick up and kick its shell outside of the two pipes, then stand to the left of the pipe on the right. Jump straight up to reveal a hidden block contains a coin. There are two more hidden blocks directly to the left.

Then go past the second Piranhacus Giganticus to find another door, along with a couple of Red Giant Koopa Troopas. Go through the door to return to normal world, then go to the left where you revealed the hidden blocks in giant world. Reveal the three hidden blocks, but this time you get a 1UP from the leftmost hidden block.

Now go to the right, and you can either stay in normal world or switch to giant world. You can complete the rest of the level in whichever world you prefer. From the door, go to the right, but beware of the Paratroopa and Piranha Plant. From the pipe, go to the right to find some bricks. Beware of the Red Koopa Troopa on the lower brick platform and the Green Koopa Troopa that falls down from the upper brick platform. If you stand on the right side of the lower brick platform, you can jump up and hit the bricks to get some coins.

From there, go to the bricks on the right and be careful of the Paratroopa, then keep going to the right, where there is another Paratroopa before the Goal Block. Hit the Goal Block to complete the level.

After the Level

You can optionally visit the red Toad House, where there is a chance of getting a Fire Flower, a Super Leaf, or a Tanooki Suit.

Then you can either go to World 4-5, or the second fortress of World 4.
