A guide to completing World 5-8 in Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

How to Clear World 5-8

Go to the right and jump up to the upper cloud, and hit the ? Blocks. The third block from the left contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf. The rest contain one coin each.

To the right, jump over the gap. As you go to the right, a Lakitu will appear in the sky and start throwing Spiny Eggs, which turn into Spiny Beetles when they land.

Keep going to the right, and there is a high cloud that you can try to use to stomp on the Lakitu, but another Lakitu will appear after a short time.

Keep going to the right, and there is a cloud with a Red Koopa Troopa. After that, there is another high cloud where you can stomp the Lakitu if it is still there or if a new one has appeared.

From the high cloud, you can run and jump to the right to reach a higher cloud, where there is a ? Block that contains a Super Mushroom or Super Leaf.

There is a Red Paratroopa that you can stomp on or jump over to reach a small cloud. From there you can jump up onto the cloud on the right, where there is one more Red Paratroopa. Then go to the right and go through the pipe.

Go to the right, but beware of the Lakitu, and hit the Goal Block to complete the level. You can then go to World 5-9.
