How to clear #5 Roy's Castle in Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance.

A scene from Roy's Castle in Super Mario World.

How to Clear Roy's Castle

Jump on the Brown Blocks and they will start to move in a snake-like motion. They won't carry you, so you have to keep moving in order to avoid falling off.

Avoid the Lava Bubble and get the Dragon Coin. The platform will go upward in a stair formation, so jump up, but avoid the diagonal Lava Bubble.

The snake platform will go near the ceiling, then it will zig-zag left and right several times, so make sure not to fall off the side.

The platform will go up in a stair formation again, then there will be a diagonal Lava Bubble that bounces off the ceiling that you have to dodge, as well as some other Lava Bubbles beneath the platform.

Next, the snake platform goes through an area with spikes above and below. The darker spikes will fall when you get close. The platform will go downward so you can get the Dragon Coins. The second and third Dragon Coin in this area have spikes that fall from the ceiling through them, so wait for the spike to fall before you get the Dragon Coin.

Then the snake platform will go into a hole in the ground, so jump off of it to the solid ground on the right. There are some spikes in the ceiling, and a spike that will fall through the P Switch below. Pick up and carry the P Switch to the right, but beware of the Gray Bowser Statues that spit flames in this area, and the three Lava Bubbles that go up and down through the bridge. If you want a 1-Up Mushroom and don't mind having to dodge flames from another Gray Bowser Statue, you can use the P Switch here to make the 1-Up Mushroom and the statue fall.

Otherwise, you can carry the P Switch to the right, past the bridge, to an area with Stretch Blocks. There is a Gray Bowser Statue that you can get rid of if you step on the P Switch before you get on the Stretch Blocks. The Brown Block beneath the statue will turn into a coin, and the statue will fall into the pit. There are three diagonal Lava Bubbles to avoid in this area, and a Dragon Coin to collect. If you have been to the Green Switch Palace, there is also a Green Block here that you can hit to get a Cape Feather.

Then go to the right, past another Gray Bowser Statue, and go through the boss door.

Roy Koopa

Roy can walk on the walls and ceiling. He will try to fall on you to crush you. When he lands, the ground will shake and you won't be able to move for a moment. Stomp on Roy when he's on the ground or hit him with fireballs. The second time you hit him, the walls will get closer together. If you try to stomp him when he's climbing up the wall, you will just bounce off. Keep hitting him until he's defeated.

After the Level

There will be a cutscene, then the door to the south will be unlocked, and you automatically go south. You will be asked if you want to save the game. Then you can begin the next level, Chocolate Island 1.
