How to Clear #2 Morton's Castle
At the start, a Thwimp will fall down from the ceiling and jump left and right. There is another Thwimp to the right of the first. After that, there is a spinning Ball 'N' Chain, and an Escalator after it.
If you're Caped Mario, you can start running left from the first Ball 'N' Chain, but be careful not to run into the Thwimps, then fly up to reach a hidden passage. The timing is difficult because you need to avoid both Thwimps and also avoid hitting the ceiling, which will stop you from flying. If you make it to the top, go to the right and go through the pipe to reach a 1-Up Chamber. At the top, go through the pipe and skip ahead to Sliding Block Room on this page.
If you're not Caped Mario or you don't want to go to the 1-Up Chamber, go up the escalator on the right and dodge the Ball 'N' Chains as you go up. If you have been to the Yellow Switch Palace, there will be a Yellow Block next to the second Ball 'N' Chain. It contains a Super Mushroom. At the top, go through the door.
Go to the left and make your way past the Thwomps, which crash to the ground, then slowly go back up, and a Lava Bubble that jumps up and down from the lava. At the top, there is a Dry Bones, which collapses when stomped but comes back to life a moment later. If you are Caped Mario, you can hit it with your cape to defeat it. Go through the door.
Sliding Block Room
Blocks will slide left and right throughout this area. Some can be used as platforms, but others will try to crush you.
Go to the right and go up the blocks to reach the non-moving platform at the top. Then wait for the platform on the left to slide toward you, and jump on it.
Then jump on the sliding platform on the right and hit the three Prize Blocks, but don't let the sliding platform crush you when it comes back. The middle Prize Block contains a Cape Feather.
Next, wait for the blocks to slide to the left so you can jump onto the unmoving ledge above you. Quickly jump up the left side until you're on top of the unmoving small Gray Blocks and larger block, then when the sliding block slides to the left, use it to reach the unmoving ledge on the right, and go from there to the ledge on the left with the Dry Bones and the Jumping Board.
If you want 12 coins, pick up the Jumping Board and move it under the hole that leads to the coin room, and when the sliding blocks create a gap, jump up through it to reach the coins. Then move the Jumping Board back to the left, and jump up the gap to reach the path upward.
Go up quickly so the sliding blocks on the left don't crush you. At the top, try to hit the fourth Block from the left. A Beanstalk will grow from it. Climb up it and stomp the Dry Bones at the top, then stand in the middle of the floor and jump straight up to reveal a hidden Prize Block that contains a 1-Up Mushroom. Then go back down to the Blocks that the Beanstalk grew out of.
Go to the right, but wait for the sliding blocks to be moving to the right before you start going up. When the blocks are moving toward the left, they can crush you, so try to reach the top before they start sliding toward you.
At the top, jump to the right and stomp the Dry Bones, then go from the hole in the floor to the right wall to make a 1-Up Mushroom appear.
Then go up to where there are two Dry Bones and three Prize Blocks. Each one contains a coin.
Above that, make your way up the right side. The sliding blocks will reveal a hole in the upper-right of the ceiling. Go up through that hole when it is open. Then carefully jump to the left on the Gray Blocks and avoid falling on the sliding spikes below. A sliding block will come out of the left wall, so jump on it when it appears, then jump on the ledge above that, where there is a Dry Bones.
If you have been to the Green Switch Palace, there will be a Green Block here that you can hit to get a Cape Feather.
When you're ready, go through the big door to face this castle's boss.
Morton Koopa Jr.
Morton can walk on the walls and ceiling. He will try to fall on you to crush you. When he lands, the ground will shake and you won't be able to move for a moment. Stomp on Morton when he's on the ground or hit him with fireballs. If you try to stomp him when he's climbing up the wall, you will just bounce off. Keep hitting him until he's defeated.
After the Level
There will be a cutscene, then the door to the cave to the north will be unlocked, and you automatically go north. You will be asked if you want to save the game. Then you can begin the next level, Vanilla Dome 1.
