How to Clear Forest Secret Area
This level has three 1-Up Mushrooms after the Giant Gate. If you want them and you have a Cape Feather, you can run in the starting area until you can fly up and to the right, then keep gliding along the top of the screen so that you fly over the Giant Gate at the end of the level, where you can collect the three 1-Up Mushrooms and then go to the left to go through the gate. Or if you have a Blue Yoshi, you can have him eat a shell and fly through the level to do the same thing.
If you want just to complete the level like normal, jump on the flying platform, and the platform to the right will also start to move. Both platforms move in a zig-zag pattern, but when one goes up, the other goes down.
As soon as you jump on the first platform, jump on the second one to get the coins, but watch out for the red Koopa Paratroopas. Then when the upper platform comes down toward you, jump on it so you can get the coins and Dragon Coin, and stomp on any green Koopa Paratroopas that get in the way.
There is a lone green Koopa Paratroopa that you have to dodge. Then you need to jump on the other flying platform so you can hit the Prize Block, which contains a Cape Feather, but as soon as you have hit the Prize Block, jump back to the other platform so you can get the Cape Feather as it floats, as well as the coins and Dragon Coin up above.
Next, if you want a Fire Flower, stay on your current platform and watch out for the red Koopa Paratroopa that flies from the right, but if you want 16 coins instead, switch to the other platform and watch out for the red Koopa Paratroopa in your path. If you went up to get the 16 coins, switch back to the other platform so you can get the Dragon Coin to the right of those coins, and avoid the red Koopa Paratroopa and three green Koopa Paratroopas in the way.
From the Dragon Coin, you can fall down below, but go to the right since the lower platform is to your right, to get the ten coins that are above the lower platform.
Then, if you want a Dragon Coin, get on the platform that is moving up, or if you want 13 coins and a 1-Up Mushroom instead, get on the platform that is moving down. You can hit the Block on the way up to get the 1-Up Mushroom. Or if you have been to the Blue Switch Palace, you can get on the upward platform to get the Dragon Coin, then fall down onto the Blue Block platform to hit the Block and get the 1-Up Mushroom.
At this point, if you want six coins, get on the platform that is moving down, or if you want the last Dragon Coin, get on the platform that is moving up.
Then make sure you are on the platform that is moving up. If you have Yoshi, it's possible to get three 1-Up Mushrooms if you stay on the upward platform, then spin jump off of Yoshi to jump over the gate. If you don't jump high enough, you'll activate the gate and finish the level.
After the Level
After the level, the path to the south will unlock, and you can go to Forest Fortress.
