How to Clear Bowser's Castle Front Door

Note that if you go through the Secret Exit in Valley of Bowser 2 and then complete Valley Fortress, you can go to Bowser's Castle Back Door and skip everything that you have to go through in Bowser's Castle Front Door.

You start in a hallway with four doors.

  • Door 1: Lava, Lava Bubbles, and Pillars
  • Door 2: Fence and Koopa Troopas
  • Door 3: Mechakoopa and maze
  • Door 4: Moving platforms and Lil Sparkies

Door 1

This area automatically scrolls from right to left, and huge Pillars crash down from the ceiling periodically. There are lava pits with Lava Bubbles that come up out of them. If you have been to some or all of the Switch Palaces, there will be blocks above some of the lava. After you reach the right side, go through the door and you arrive in the Second Hallway.

Door 2

Jump and grab the fence, and go to the right, where there are diagonal Lava Bubbles bouncing around the room, and red Koopa Troopas climbing on the fence, and spikes in the floor. After you reach the right side, go through the door and you arrive in the Second Hallway.

Door 3

In this room, there are many Mechakoopas, and much of the area is covered by tapestries with diamond patterns on them, and some of the diamonds are missing. You can Spin Jump on Mechakoopas to destroy them. If you stomp them instead, they will temporarily collapse, and you can carry them around and kick them a short distance to damage other enemies.

The actual path through the maze is illustrated below. After the map below, there are instructions on getting through the maze.

---------------- --------------------- ------------- ----|
                       | | 2 |
---- ------------------------------------- ----- --------|
           | | |

The "1" in the upper-left corner is a 1-Up Mushroom and the "2" is a Cape Feather. To get through this maze, jump up through the first tapestry above you that has large missing diamonds, then go to the left and jump up where there is another large-diamond tapestry. If you're to the left of the large-diamond tapestry, jump over the gap on the right. Go to the right, past a Magikoopa, and jump up through another large-diamond tapestry. Then go to the left on this level to get a 1-Up Mushroom from behind the tapestry in the top-left corner.

Then go to the right but jump over the gap behind the large-diamond tapestry, then go to the right and get past the Magikoopa, then fall down the gap behind the large-diamond tapestry. Go to the right from there and fall down the gap behind another large-diamond tapestry, then go right and jump up through the small-diamond tapestry just before a large one. Go to the right and get the hidden Cape Feather behind the rightmost tapestry, then go left and jump up through the large-diamond tapestry.

Then you can go to the right, get past a Magikoopa, and go through the door to reach the Second Hallway.

Door 4

If you're Caped Mario, you can fly to the right and fly above the upper-right wall to get a 1-Up Mushroom.

Otherwise, wait for the Lil Sparky on the right to be going to the right, then get on the moving platform and crouch if you're tall, then jump off onto the platform on the right.

Get on the upper moving platform on the right, then when it stops moving, fall off the right side to land on the moving platform below. Then jump on the stationary platform on the right where there is a Lil Sparky, jump to the next platform which also has a Lil Sparky, then jump on the next platform, which has a Hothead and two Lil Sparkies. Then jump on the last platform, which has a Lil Sparky. Then jump to the right. Go through the door and you arrive in the Second Hallway.

Second Hallway

The second hallway also has four doors:

  • Door 5: Skewers and Thwomps
  • Door 6: Sliding Blocks underwater
  • Door 7: Fire-breathing Bowser Statues
  • Door 8: Bouncing Chucks

Door 5

This room requires precise timing. Stand as close to the first Skewer as possible without touching it, and when it starts to slowly move back up, start running to the right as soon as the Skewer has gone up far enough. If you do it correctly, you will run past all of the Thwomps and Skewers without getting hit. Go through the door and you arrive at Bowser's Castle Back Door.

Door 6

Swim upward to where there is a Dry Bones throwing bones. Stay on the same level as the Dry Bones, because a sliding block with spikes on it will slide from the right, above where the Dry Bones is.

When the sliding block goes back to the right, swim up through the hole in the ceiling and there is a Prize Block that contains a Cape Feather, as well as a bunch of Fishbones. Up above, wait for the sliding block to get out of the way of the gap in the ceiling, then swim up through it.

If needed, swim leftward along with the sliding blocks, then swim up through the next gap in the ceiling. Beware of the Dry Bones that throws bones, then carefully swim up through the area with the Ball 'N' Chains, then go up through the ceiling gap when the sliding block up above is lined up with the gap.

Swim left along with the sliding block, then swim up and go through the pipe on the right and you arrive at Bowser's Castle Back Door.

Door 7

To the right, there is a Gray Bowser Statue that does not breathe fire, but there are two Bowser Statues above it that do breathe fire. Carefully jump on top of the second Statue.

If you visited the Blue Switch Palace, the third Bowser Statue will be on top of a Blue Block near the ceiling. Otherwise, it will be lower down, on a Gray Block.

To the right of that, there is a Gold Bowser Statue that hops left and right. It doesn't breathe fire. You can't stomp it, so just avoid it.

There is another fire-breathing statue to the right, followed by a hopping Gold Bowser Statue, and a lava pit with a Lava Bubble that jumps up and down from it.

If you visited the Red Switch Palace, the Bowser Statue after the lava pit will be on a Red Block near the ceiling. Otherwise, it will be lower down, on a Gray Block.

There is a fire-breathing Bowser Statue on the floor after that, followed by a Gold Bowser Statue that hops down the stairs. Go through the door after that and you arrive at Bowser's Castle Back Door.

Door 8

This area is full of Bouncing Chucks that make high jumps left and right. You can stomp them to turn them into Chargin' Chucks that just run left and right (but they can jump up if they hit a wall). To the right, there is a pit of spikes, and if you have been to the Blue Switch Palace and Green Switch Palace, there is a Green Block you can hit to get a Cape Feather.

Keep going to the right, past all the Bouncing Chucks, and go through the door to reach Bowser's Castle Back Door.
