How to Begin a Game of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

When you start the game, there will be a cutscene.

Suthorn Ruins

After the cutscene, you can press + to pause the game and see the controls. Press Y to use the sword. Hold Y to charge up the sword, then let go to do a spin attack. Hold ZL to ready your shield and block attacks. Press X to fire an arrow, or hold X to charge up and fire three arrows at once. Press A to create a bomb, or hold A to charge up and turn the bomb into a Bombchu.

From the pause screen, you can press L or R to go to the System Screen, where you can save the game (there are two save slots), load a game save, go to the title screen, or change the difficulty. The difficulty is set to Normal by default, but can be changed to Hero Mode, where you will take more damage, and no hearts will drop, and some accessory affects won't be applied.

The System screen shows additional controls: press B to jump, and use the R stick to control the camera, and press the R stick like a button and hold it to temporarily switch to overhead view.

Go north, and follow the instructions on the screen to learn the controls. Cut the grass if you wish, then stand on the platform on the north wall to go up.

When prompted, press B to jump onto the rocks in your path. Keep going north, up some stairs. You will reach an intersection. Go to the right, and press B to jump onto the rocks. Keep going east, and jump over another set of rocks.

A little farther to the east, you encounter an enemy. Hold ZL to ready your shield. If the enemy hits your shield with its weapon, it will be temporarily stunned. Press Y to swing your sword and defeat the enemy.

Go east and defeat another enemy, then jump over more rocks. Go through the east door.

Defeat the three enemies, cut the grass in the corner if you wish, then go through the north door.

You can walk up to a wooden crate and press A to pick it up. Go north and hold ZL when prompted to target the Keese (bat). Then you can press Y to swing the sword, and you'll automatically face the enemy if you keep holding ZL to target it.

Go north until you can't go farther north, then go west and defeat the Keese there. Jump over the pit. If you fall in, you can just go south and jump onto the rock to reach the right side and try again.

Defeat the two Keese, then go west and jump onto the bridge of fallen rocks. Walk across the bridge, then jump on the rocks until you're as high up as you can go. Jump to the rocks on the left side, then jump across the gap on the left. Go through the west door.

Go north and defeat the three enemies. The blue one takes more hits to defeat, and it can do a spinning axe attack.

Go north and break the crates to get hearts if you need them. Then go north up the stairs. There will be a cutscene.

Boss Battle

You will be attacked. If the boss stops moving, try to move around, because the boss will dash toward you with the spear. After the boss dashes, you have time to hit the boss. After four hits, the boss will pause.

At this point, the boss will play dead man's volley, shooting a fireball at you. Hit the fireball with your sword to knock it back toward the boss. When it hits the boss, run to the boss and swing your sword repeatedly. Do this twice, and there will be a cutscene.

Afterward, wiggle the left control stick until you escape. You no longer have any weapons, but you can jump.

Walk around the rift, and a glowing item will go to Link's hood. Go to where the glowing item went, and press A to get the Swordsman's Cloak.

There will be a cutscene. Follow the glowing item, and press B to jump over any obstacles that you can't go around. Then go through the south door, and there will be a cutscene.

Then you will be in Hyrule Castle Town.
