An explanation of beneficial and detrimental effects, and how to handle them.
Overview
Buffs and debuffs, also known as enhancements and enfeeblements, are effects that you can have during combat and other situations. Buffs are beneficial, and debuffs are detrimental.
Buffs
Buffs grant beneficial effects, such as healing over time, increased experience point gain, and so on. Buffs are indicated on your screen by a small icon that is pointing upward. These will sometimes have a number beneath them, indicating the time remaining of that effect.
If you wish to remove a buff effect early, you can in some cases cancel them
by right-clicking
them or by pressing select on controller until the cursor is on buffs, and
clicking the confirm button to remove them. Another way to cancel them is
by typing
/statusoff,
followed by the name of the effect. For example:
/statusoff "Sprint"
.
Debuffs
Debuffs have detrimental effects, such as damage over time, reduced accuracy, and so on. Debuffs are indicated on your screen by a small icon that is pointing downward. These will sometimes have a number beneath them, indicating the time remaining of that effect.
How to Remove Debuffs
Some debuff icons may have a white bar above them, which means that they can be removed by casting Esuna on the afflicted target, or in some cases by using medicine items such as Spine Drops, Echo Drops, and so on.
Debuffs that do not have this white bar cannot be removed with Esuna or medicine.
