World 2-2

A guide to completing World 2-2 in Super Mario Bros 1 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Explore World 2-2

World 2-2 is the first underwater world (unless you went to Minus World earlier). In underwater worlds, you can tap the jump button repeatedly to swim upward. To go downward, you have to stop tapping the jump button so you can sink down.

Swim to the right, past the coral, and sink down to get the coin there. To the right, there is a Bloober (jellyfish). If you're Fire Mario, you can hit it with a fireball, but if not, you have to just try to dodge it.

Swim up and to the right to find three coins, then go to the right, past the coral, and sink down to get three more coins.

Keep going to the right, past a couple more Bloobers. You'll see some coins above a pit, but be careful. There is a current going down into the pit, so you will have to tap the jump button more rapidly to avoid getting pulled down into the pit.

To the right of the pit, there are some Cheep-Cheeps (fish). Keep going to the right, past more Bloobers and Cheep-Cheeps, and you'll see three coins near the floor. Collect them if you wish, then swim to the right and you'll see three coins in the upper half of the screen.

Swim right and there is another pit with some coins, but there is another current that will pull you down if you don't tap the jump button more quickly.

Go right from there, and you'll find another pit with coins above it, and this time there are high walls on either side. Collect those coins if you wish, then continue to the right.

Eventually, you find a pipe in the wall. Swim into the pipe and you'll go back above the water. Go up the stairs, run and jump off of the top to reach the goal pole, and you'll move on to World 2-3.
