World 4-3

A guide to completing World 4-3, the final level in Super Mario Land for Nintendo Game Boy.

Clear World 4-3

This is the final level of the game! You will be flying in the Sky Pop, so you'll automatically move to the right, but you can also move freely up, down, left, right, and diagonally. You can press the run button to shoot missiles.

You can shoot the first brick to get a Mushroom. Then you will have to avoid letting the Chickens hit you. You can shoot them with one Missile to defeat them. The Chickens will swerve toward you if they get too close, so be careful.

Eventually you see two stacked bricks. In this area, there are coins (which you can only collect by flying through them, not shooting them), and some Roketons that fly quickly and shoot Bullet Biffs back toward you if they go past you. You can defeat them by shooting them with one Missile.

Toward the end of the Roketon area, there will be a final set of stacked bricks, and if you hit the bottom brick of the uppermost set of bricks, you get a Mushroom.

Stay in the upper half of the screen and hit the next brick to get a 1UP Heart. But you will have to dodge Chickens, Roketons, and Chikakos (sparks) to get the heart before it falls off of the screen. Chikakos can be destroyed if you shoot them with ten missiles or touch them after getting an invincibility star.

In the upper half of the screen, there will be an empty brick, followed by a brick that contains a Star. Get the star if you can, then collect the coins in the area after it. The Chikakos will be destroyed if you touch them while invincible.

Soon you will see a wall, but before you reach it, you can try to hit the final upper brick to get a Mushroom.

You will have to move past the walls so they don't push you off of the left side of the screen, while dealing with Chickens and Roketons.

Next, there is a room full of coins, but remember that you have to fly through them to collect them. Missiles don't collect the coins for you. At the bottom right of the coin room, there are bricks that you need to shoot through in order to proceed.

After a tunnel, there are two winding paths that you need to quickly move through to avoid getting pushed off of the left side of the screen. There are no enemies to worry about in this area.

Then there is a Roto Disc to dodge, followed by a brick wall that you need to shoot through.

After that, you can shoot the uppermost brick to get a Mushroom. Then there is a Roto Disc at the bottom of the room that you need to dodge to continue. Then there are some coins, followed by two Pipe Fists that can't be damaged by Missiles, followed by a brick wall. Shoot Missiles past the Pipe Fists (the missiles go through them, so there is no need to wait for them to get out of the way of the missiles) then when the Pipe Fists go back up into the pipes, quickly go past the pipes and through the hole that you created.

Biokinton

You will now battle a cloud called Biokinton. You have to hit Biokinton with 20 missiles to defeat it. Throughout the battle, Biokinton will create Chickens that fly at you and try to swerve and hit you when they get close. Whenever Biokinton is in the left half of the screen, try to go to the right half and wait for Biokinton to return to the right half before you try to continue shooting it.

Tatanga

After Biokinton is defeated, the final boss will appear from the bottom of the screen. This is Tatanga, who flies around in a spaceship (called Pagosu), shooting bullets that split into three. Tatanga will stay on the right side of the screen. Try to go through the gaps between Tatanga's bullets, and try shooting missiles continuously. Tatanga's bullets will block your missiles, but the bullets eventually get destroyed if you shoot them quickly enough, and you will probably shoot missles through the gaps between the bullets as well. It takes 25 missiles to destroy Tatanga's spaceship. After you defeat Tatanga, there will be a cutscene. Congratulations! You won! Enjoy the end credits! After the credits, press any button and you will return to the title screen, but instead of a Mushroom next to the word "START", Mario's head will be there, indicating that you will start the game in Expert Mode. There will be more enemies in Expert Mode, and completing it will allow you to choose any level to play.
