After you are accepted into the Survey Corps, Rei or Akari will teach you the basics of crafting.

Receive Clothing

Go to the guidance marker and press A to leave the building. There will be a cutscene. You will get an Everyday Kimono and Everyday Trousers. You can change into them whenever you wish, using the mirror in your quarters.

Go to the Craftworks

Go to the guidance marker and there will be a cutscene. Use the nearby workbench and select the Poké Ball from the list, and how many you want to craft. You can make up to 20 with the materials from Rei or Akari.

Afterward, the mission will be complete, and Professor Laventon will give you your Pokédex. You can open it to see the pokémon that you have encountered and caught. You can also view any research tasks that have not yet been completed, as well as each pokémon's habitat.

Your next mission is Getting to Work on Research Tasks. As you go toward the exit, Beauregard will ask if you can help with a request. In addition, there will be other guidance markers around the village of other people with requests.

You can now press down on the directional pad whenever you want to open the Pokédex. If you do this while holding ZL to target a pokémon, it will add the pokémon to your Pokédex and open the Pokédex to that pokémon's entry.
