This page lists the pieces of heart that you can find on Koholint Island. There are 12 pieces of heart hidden around the island. Every time you collect four pieces of heart, you gain another heart container.

Piece of Heart #1

Requirements: Sword

One screen west of BowWow's house, there are three bushes on top of a ledge that overlooks a well. Cut the bushes and fall off the ledge to fall into the well.

Piece of Heart #2

Requirements: 10 rupees

Go north from BowWow's house to find a fisherman. Pay him, then catch the fish directly under Link.

Piece of Heart #3

Requirements: Roc's Feather

Go out the northeast exit of the Mysterious Forest and you will see a Piece of Heart surrounded by holes. Use the Roc's Feather to jump over the holes and reach the Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #4

Requirements: Power Bracelet

Go into the southern log in the Mysterious Forest and go through the cave, then lift the skulls to reach the Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #5

Requirements: Ocarina

In Yarna Desert, there is quicksand in the northwest corner. You can get a Piece of Heart from the pit under the quicksand. Either fall into the quicksand and bomb the middle of the north wall of the room that you fell into, or go into the door east of the quicksand and go west, then bomb the middle of the north wall of that room. You will find a Piece of Heart in the room that you opened.

Piece of Heart #6

Requirements: Bomb, Pegasus Boots

In the forest east of Mabe Village, in the screen west of the tree with the beehive on it, there is a cracked wall. Bomb it to open a cave. Use the Pegasus Boots and sword to dash through the green crystals, then continue through the cave to find a Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #7

Requirements: Roc's Feather

Go to the area of the graveyard that has exactly four graves (the southwest screen of the graveyard). Push up on the bottom-right grave to reveal some stairs. Go down, then jump diagonally so that you are to the right of the stairs. Push the rock to the right, then jump diagonally to the ledge that is southeast from you. From there, jump up to the top area and get the Piece of Heart. If you are having trouble, just come back when you have the Hookshot, and use a bomb on the cracked stone that is south of the stairs, and use the Hookshot on the rock to the right, then jump up and get the Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #8

Requirements: Flippers

Go east from the warp spot in Tal Tal Heights and jump into the water, then swim into the cave in the north wall. Press B to dive, then swim upward toward the center of the room to find a Piece of Heart just below the middle of the room.

Piece of Heart #9

Requirements: Flippers

Swim counter-clockwise around the moat of Kanalet Castle. You can reach the moat by Catfish Bay or Tal Tal Heights. When you are southwest of the castle, push against the south wall while swimming, and press B to dive to look for a Piece of Heart submerged in the water. The Piece of Heart is north of the second hole from the left.

Piece of Heart #10

Requirements: Pegasus Boots, Flippers

Go up to the top of the Tal Tal Mountains and go through the caves until you are outside and you find stairs going up from the water. Go up those stairs, then go west to find more stairs. Go up those, then go west from the house. Use the Hookshot to cross the bridge, then cut the bush that you find on the other side. Go down the stairs, then in the first room of the cave, bomb the indentation in the south wall. Go through the cave that you opened and you will find a Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #11

Requirements: Bombs, Hookshot

Just before the entrance to Yarna Desert, go north so that you are walking along the east side of Animal Village, with the fence of the village to your left. Keep going north to find a cracked wall. Bomb it and go inside.

Push up on the rock above you. If you have the Bow and Arrows, go west, using the Roc's Feather to jump over the gap. In the next room, jump over the gap and go north. Then walk up until you are in line with the cracked stone to the left. Equip the Bow to one of your buttons, and equip a Bomb to the other. Then press both B and A at the same time. This will cause you to shoot a bomb across the gap, which will explode on the cracked stone, breaking it. After that, use the Hookshot to go across and get the Piece of Heart.

If you don't have the Bow and Arrows, then from the first room of the cave, hit the Hardhat Beetle with your sword to knock it off of the platform, then jump to that platform and use a bomb on the north wall. Follow the path through the cave that you opened, being careful to avoid the green Zols in the ground at the end of the path. When you reach the end of the path, put down a bomb and then press the bomb button to pick it up and throw it at the cracked stone. Then go back the way you came until you reach the first room of the cave. Go west from there, then north, then use the Hookshot to go across and get the Piece of Heart.

Piece of Heart #12

Requirements: Mirror Shield, Hookshot, Frog's Song of Soul

This Piece of Heart can be reached from the eighth dungeon, Turtle Rock. In the northwest area of the dungeon, in the room north of the room with the statue that you have to shoot with an arrow, there are stairs leading outside. There you will find a Piece of Heart.
