After defeating the Skull Master on the Ghost Ship, you rescue the mermaid queen and get the Blue Stone, gaining access to the Mountain of Souls.
Explore Outside
In the Soul of Mountain House, nobody is there and there areas that you can't reach yet. For now, go west from the shrine tile, then go north through the door to the outside.
Mountain, north-slope
To the east of the stairs, some Snow Rats are burrowing underground. Walk toward the moving snow to make the Snow Rats come out, then kill them. After they are all gone, go east and open the lair to release a girl.
Go north up the stairs, then go west to find more Snow Rats. Kill them and open the lair to reveal another lair on a ledge up above. Storm Crows come out. They move diagonally toward you if you go close to them, and they spit energy toward you from time to time. You can kill the Storm Crows now or wait until you can reach their lair later. You can use magic to defeat the ones that you can't reach.
Go east and you will find a Mountain Yeti lair. The Yeti will walk toward you, then if you are in its path, it will stop and then rush toward you, swinging its club. Kill the Yetis and open the lair to release Grandpa.
Go east, then south down the blue slope. Kill the Yetis that come out of this lair and open the lair to reveal a treasure chest that contains 40 GEMs.
Go north up the blue slope. The slope pushes you downward, but just press up to slowly go up the slope. Then keep going north to go up the stairs. Kill the Storm Crows that come out of this lair and open the lair to reveal stairs.
Go north up the new stairs. Walk up to the Mountain Deer skeletons to wake them up, then kill them with your sword. Go west and kill the other deer in this area to unlock the lair. Open the lair to create a blue slope south of you. The slope is just a shortcut down the mountain, so you can ignore it if you don't want to go back yet. Go west across the bridge and watch the nice special effect of clouds in the background, then go down the stairs. There is a Storm Crow lair here. If you didn't kill these Storm Crows earlier, kill them now. Open the lair to release a mushroom.
Go up the stairs, go east across the bridge, then go north up the next set of stairs. There is a Snow Rat lair here. Kill the Snow Rats and open the lair to create a blue slope south of you. It's just another shortcut, so go east. Go up the stairs to reach the next area of the mountain.
Aurora's Ridge
There is a Snow Rat lair here, so walk up to the moving snow to make the rats come out, then kill them and open the lair to make some of the snow disappear. If you go north you can see the aurora in the background.
Go east to the Yeti lair that was just revealed. Kill the Yetis. Be careful of the snowball near the Yeti lair. It will roll toward you when you get close and will continue to follow you. It becomes slower as it gets bigger, and you can make it roll into a rock to break it. Step on the cleared Yeti lair to remove more snow.
Go east to find the Snow Rat lair that was revealed. Kill all of the Snow Rats and open the lair to remove more snow.
Follow the path east to find a Storm Crow lair. Kill them and open the lair to remove more snow.
Follow the path north. There is a Yeti lair here. Kill the Yetis and open the lair to reveal two new lairs. Both lairs are Snow Rat lairs. Kill all of the Snow Rats. When you clear the lair on the right, you release another Grandpa. When you clear the lair on the left, you release a snail.
Now go west and north to where there is a blue slope. Go up the slope, being careful of the snowballs up there. Go all the way east to find a Storm Crow lair. Kill them and open the lair to reveal four treasure chests. The one on the right contains 50 GEMs. The one to the left of that contains a Medical Herb. To the left of that, there is an empty chest. To the left of that is Magic Armor. Equip the armor now. When you wear it, your magic spells will only require half the usual number of GEMs. In addition, it provides the strongest defense available right now.
Go north up the blue slope. There is a Storm Crow lair at the top of the slope, so kill the monsters and open the lair to release a boy. Go north and then east into the cave.
The top of Snow Mountain
Go west to find a Snow Rat lair. Clear it to release a girl.
Go west and then north. A snowball will roll toward you, so make it roll into a rock to break it. Continue north and there will be another snowball. Get rid of it, then go down the ice slope. When you walk on the ice, you will slide south. When you stop, go east, north, east, north, then east, south, and west. Now you should be able to go north up the slope onto the snow.
Kill the mountain deer here, then go west and kill the next deer, then go south and kill the others. You should also kill the Snow Rats and Yetis in this area. You can't reach the Mountain Deer's lair just yet, but you can open the northwest lair (the Yeti lair) to release a boy who says that he can give you the Mushroom Shoes when you return. Open the southern lair (the Snow Rat lair) to reveal a shortcut with a Blue Crystal Fairy on it. You can't do anything else in this area, so talk to the Blue Crystal Fairy to get some EXP, then ask to go back to the Mountain of Souls.
Go south from the mountain entrance to find the boy who gives you the Mushroom Shoes. Once you have the shoes, go all the way back to the place where you slid on the ice. Equip the Mushroom Shoes and walk on the ice east of the Blue Crystal Fairy. Go southeast and then up the slope onto the snow. Go west from here to find a Storm Crow lair. Kill them and open the lair to create a shortcut.
Go down the new ice slope and then go north on the ice, then east on the ice. Step on the open lair. This is the lair of the Mountain Deer that you killed earlier. Open the lair to release a Grandma.
Go west and south on the ice, then go up the southern ice slope. Go north from there and then go down the stairs that go underground.
An Ice Hill
Go south down the ice slope, then go east and then north up the ice. The green blobs that come out of this lair are called Slippers. Kill them and open the lair to release a mushroom.
Go south and then west. The lair here releases purple wizards called Flashers. They spin around and disappear, then reappear somewhere else and shoot an energy beam in a straight line. Kill them and open the lair to open the path to the south.
Go north to find two Slipper lairs. Clear both lairs to release two snails.
Go south to find an Icicle Cluster. It's not associated with a monster lair. If you hit it, it will explode after a moment, shooting icicles. You can ignore it. Go west and then go south down the path that is the second from the left. Use the Magic Flair spell to kill the Dive Bats that come out of the southwest lair. Then go north and use a spell to break the Icicle Cluster to the west. Go north to get out of this path, then go west and then south to reach the Dive Bat lair that you just cleared. Open it to clear a path to the south. Go north and then east, and go down the second path from the east. Kill the Dive Bats with magic like before, then use magic to get rid of the Icicle Cluster blocking the easternmost path. Go down the easternmost path and open the lair to reveal a lair down below.
Go north and then to the middle where an icicle cluster is in front of the wide path. Walk past the Icicle Cluster and then go south to the Dive Bat lair. Kill the bats and open the lair to release a girl.
Go south to find a Slipper lair. Clear it to open paths to the east and west.
Go west and then south. Go south down the ice slope and kill the Flashers and open their lair to release a snail.
Go east through the gap in the wall and then go north to the Flasher lair. Kill the Flashers and clear the lair to release a mushroom.
Go all the way south and down the stairs.
Ice Field of Laynole
There is a nearby Flasher lair. Kill them and open the lair to release a Grandpa.
Go east until you can see an island to the north. There is a hidden ice path that allows you to reach this island. Wait a moment until it shines. If you don't see it, go east and wait a moment. Go north up the hidden path and then go west to find a chest. It contains the Lucky Blade. You can only use it if you are at level 15 or above, so if you haven't reached that level yet, don't equip the blade until you level up.
Now go south to get off of this island, then go east and south to find a Flasher lair. Clear it to open a path to the icy area to the north. Equip the Mushroom Shoes and go north into that area. Go to the center of the area and clear the Flasher lair to release a Grandpa. You might need to walk around to make the Flashers reappear if they disappear.
Go to the northwest of this icy area and kill the Dive Bats to clear their lair, releasing a snail.
Exit the icy area and go west to a Dive Bat lair. Clear it to create a path to the south. Before you go down that path, go east to where there is a hidden ice path to an island in the middle. Wait for the ice path to show itself, then go all the way south from it to find a Fire Sprite lair. The Fire Sprites are very similar to the Flashers, but instead of shooting an energy ball in a straight line, they shoot three fireballs, one in a straight line and the other two diagonally away. The fireballs turn into pillars of flame that stay on the ground for a few moments. Clear the Fire Sprite lair to release a Grandpa.
Go north and up the hidden ice path, then go west and south down the path that you opened earlier. Clear the Dive Bat lair to release a Grandpa.
Go northwest to find a Slipper lair. Clear it to reveal a warp tile to the shrine. You can't do anything else in this area, so go back to the Mountain of Souls.
Go to the Underground Lake
You can talk to the people that you released in the mountain of souls. Otherwise, go to the east side of the area and go north past the Grandpa to reach the underground lake.
Return to Laynole
First you will be in Laynole, in the area that you couldn't reach before. First, go east and then go north up the ice slope. At the top, there are four Slippers waiting for you. Kill them and open their lair to open the path to the east. Before you go, wait here until you see the hidden ice path connecting to the island to the north. Go up the hidden path. To the north, there is a Fire Sprite lair. Clear it to create a path to the treasure chest to the left. It contains a Strange Bottle.
Go east and wait until you can see the hidden ice path leading to the small northeast island. In the northeast corner of that island, there is a Dive Bat lair. Clear it to reveal a chest. It contains the Rotator magic spell. If you equip it, you can hold the Y button to create continuous energy balls from the soul that rotates around you. Each energy ball costs 1 GEM to cast.
Go south down the two hidden ice paths, then go east and down the eastern ice slope. At the end, there are some stairs. Go down to reach the lake.
A Passage to Lune
In this area, you will encounter Golden Statues. They look like tree stumps with hollow faces. They are not associated with monster lairs. Their faces will flash, then spikes will appear around you. Be careful not to walk into the spikes, or into the sparkles that appear before the spikes.
From the entrance to this area, go east, then south and down the stairs, then east, then north. There is a Fire Sprite lair here. Clear it to release a boy.
Now go south, then east and up the stairs. Go east around the small lake and you will reach a Flasher lair. There is also a Golden Statue here. Kill the statue if you want to, and clear the Flasher lair to remove the waterfall, making a shortcut.
Go down the stairs to the east. There is now a Fire Sprite lair where the waterfall used to be. There is also a Golden Statue nearby that will keep creating spikes around you. You can use magic spells to kill the Golden Statue from a distance. Clear the Fire Sprite lair to release the snail, Nome. This is one of Dr. Leo's pets.
Go east and then south past the lake. There is a Slipper lair here. Clear the lair to reveal stairs south of you. You can also use magic to kill the Dive Bats coming from the lair to the west and kill the Slippers in the north lair if you want to.
Go down the stairs. There is a Fire Sprite lair. Clear it to remove the waterfall, then kill the Golden Statue to the west if you want to. Go back up the stairs and clear the Dive Bat lair to the west. Now you can reach the small island with the Slipper lair. Clear it to reveal a Blue Crystal Fairy. She will give you EXP. You can ask her to take you back to the Mountain of Souls if you want to.
Otherwise, go south and down the stairs, then go down the southern stairs that lead to the next area.
Underground lake, Lune
There is a Golden Statue up on the ledge above, so use magic to kill it if you want. Go east and clear the Fire Sprite lair to reveal a path to the east.
Go east and clear the Slipper lair to release a Mushroom.
Go west and then north. You can use magic to kill the Golden Statue that you see on the way. You will reach a Dive Bat lair. Clear it to reveal a path to the east and a path to the west.
First go east to find a Fire Sprite lair. Use magic to get rid of the Golden Statue, and clear the lair to create a path to the south. Go south and clear the Flasher lair to reveal a lair to the west.
Go north and then west until you see some Slippers to the south. Kill the slippers and clear the lair to release a Grandma.
Now go north, then all the way west to find a Flasher lair and a Slipper lair next to each other. Each lair reveals a new path. Go north and clear the Dive Bat lair to reveal a warp tile to the shrine. Go there to heal up and save the game if you want.
Go south to find a Fire Sprite lair. Clear it to reveal a Dive Bat lair to the east. Clear the lair to release a Grandma.
There is one final lair here, but you can't reach it. To reach it, you have to first go back to the Mountain of Souls, so use the warp tile to get there. Go to the jail and use the Dream Rod on the sleeping mushroom. Step on the unlocked lair and then walk west to leave the dream. Then use the warp tile to go back to Lune and find the island that you saw in the dream. There is a lair on that island that you couldn't reach before. Clear the Dive Bat lair to release a snail. Before you leave this small island, go to the north edge of it to find The Master's Emblem F. Now, if you go back to the Mountain of Souls, go south from the warp tile and walk into the wall just left of the middle lamp. You will go through a secret path to the snail that you just released. The snail gives you The Master's Emblem E.
Now go back to Lune and go into the northern door to fight Poseidon.
Poseidon
Poseidon makes three fireballs shoot at you from the tip of the trident. Stand on the side farther away from the trident to avoid these. Hold the L or R button to point your sword at Poseidon when it comes down and starts stabbing with the trident. Be careful: he sometimes switches the side that the trident is on after the first two stabs. Before Poseidon goes back underwater, he makes two large fireballs come out. Move carefully to avoid them.
Get the Stone
When Poseidon dies, clear the lair at the left side of the room to release the King. Go back to the Mountain of Souls and talk to the King. He says that he didn't believe Nome the snail when he warned that monsters would invade, so the King put Nome in prison. The King tells you to visit Nome. The King will tell also you about the Phoenix. He says to collect the Red-Hot Mirror, the Red-Hot Ball, and the Red-Hot Stick, then visit the King to gain the power of the Phoenix.
Go talk to Nome in the jail. He gives you the Silver Stone and tells you to go to Dr. Leo's Laboratory.
Go to the shrine and step on the upper tile, then choose Move. Press right to go to the Laboratory.
