Podunk Zoo

The animals have escaped from the Podunk Zoo and it is your job to find out why they went crazy.

Get a Zoo Key

After rescuing Pippi, you should go back to town if you didn't make breadcrumbs (by getting Bread and choosing Use instead of Eat) to warp there instantly. As you make your way back to town, Pippi will help you in battles. Go to the City Hall and talk to the Mayor. (You could go to Pippi's mother first, but she will just tell you to talk to the Mayor.) The Mayor gives you $100. Afterward, agree to go to the Zoo. Talk to Abbott (the person behind the desk) to get the Key. If you talk to him again, you'll get another. You can get infinite Zoo Keys from him.

Get the Canary Chick

If you didn't do this earlier, go to the Department Store and go up the stairs to the Pet Store. Say that you want the Canary Chick, but refuse to pay. The guy will give it to you for free.

Deposit Your Money

In the Department Store, deposit any cash that you are carrying so that you won't lose it if you die.

Get the Franklin Badge

If you didn't get the Franklin Badge from Pippi when you rescued her, you can get it now. Go back to Pippi's house and talk to her. Say No to her first question, then Yes to her second question. She will give you the Franklin Badge.

If you gave the GGF's Diary to Minnie, go back home and get it. It is also recommended to save the game at home, since it will put you closer to the zoo if you die.

Get the Second Melody

Even if you already have the second melody, you should go to the Canary Village for a quicker way to the Podunk Zoo.

To go to the Canary Village, first go to Pippi's House. From Pippi's house, go southwest until you see a brown house. Go behind the brown house and go west from there, and follow the path until you reach the Canary Village. If you already got the second melody earlier, then cross the northernmost bridge east of the village and go north (ignoring the bridge on the left) to reach the zoo.

If you didn't get the second melody already, go along the south wall of the village to find the entrance. Make your way to the north part of the village, where there is a white building. Walk behind that building and go north to reach the bird that is walking around there. Use the Canary Chick on the bird. You will learn the Second Melody.

Go to the Zoo

Go back south into the walled-in part of the village, then keep going south to exit the Canary Village the way you came in. Go east until you see the river, then go north along the river until you see a sign next to a bridge. Cross that bridge, then go north. Follow the path, then go north when the path splits, and keep going north from then on. You will find the zoo. You will see a monkey standing in front of the Zoo entrance. Talk to the monkey and it will steal the Zoo Key. Go up to the door and you will discover that the lock is broken, so go inside.

Tigers, Gorillas, and Elephants are very strong. Consider using Defense Up ɑ when fighting them. (You have to press Right on the directional pad to view your other PSI spells.)

In the zoo, go west, then northeast. Then when you can't go any farther, go southeast until you go through a hole in the trees. From there, go northeast. When you reach the north wall of the zoo, go east until you can't go farther east, then go southwest and through the gap in the trees. Go east until you reach another wall of trees, then go northeast until you see a big sign on the bottom-right corner of the cage north of the flamingo cage. Be sure to check on it. It says that the Singing Monkey was in that cage. Go northeast from the Singing Monkey's cage, then east until you go past the trees, then from there go southwest until you reach a building. Go inside.

Zoo Superintendent Office

What's that weird sound? It's the sound that made the animals go crazy! The sound is coming from this building, so it's time to find the source and stop it.

There are two doors in the north wall. If you go into the door on the right, you will find a present that contains a Rope, which you can use in battle to stun the enemy for a few turns. If you go into the door on the left, you will find a present that contains an Antidote.

Back in the first room, go to the left and go up the stairs. As before, there are two doors in the north wall. If you go into the door on the right, you find a present that contains Bread. Ignore the door on the left, because there is nothing of interest there.

Back in the previous room, go up the upper stairs. Once again, there are two doors in the north wall. Go into the door on the right to find a present that contains Life Up Cream (a.k.a. Medicine in the fan translation), which heals all of your HP when used. Then go into the door on the left.

It is recommended to use (not eat) the Bread that you got. This way, you will create Crumbs that will allow you to warp back here in case you die while fighting the next enemy.

Fight Starman Jr.

Check on the capsule and you will fight Starman Jr. Hopefully you got the Franklin Badge from Pippi. Use regular Fight attacks on it. If you are lucky, the Starman will use PK Beam γ, which will bounce off of your Franklin Badge. It won't damage the Starman, but it will be a wasted turn for the Starman. Fortunately the Starman doesn't have a lot of PP, so after it uses a few PK attacks, it will run out of PP and won't be able to use PK attacks anymore.

Get the Third Melody

After the battle, you can freely explore the Zoo without any enemy encounters. Go back to the Singing Monkey's cage and check on the sign. The Monkey will sing the third melody.

Get GGF's Diary

If you already have your GGF's Diary, skip to the next section. If you left your GGF's Diary at home with Minnie, go get it now. You can reach your house by going south from the Zoo entrance, then going southeast from the Canary Village, then going northeast, and finally northwest.

Go to the Cave

Now that you have calmed down the zoo animals, the cops in the northeast of town will let you pass, so go there next. Exit the zoo the way you came in, through the gate that the monkey was guarding before. Then go east until the path goes north, and go north to find the bridge with the cops on it. Talk to them to make them get out of the way. From there, keep going east until you reach the XX Cave 1.
