This page explains the Pedometer Mode feature of Nintendogs + Cats.

Overview

A new feature in Nintendogs + Cats is the Pedometer Mode. You can choose this mode by tapping Go Out from your home menu, then tapping the green Pedometer button. The game will tell you to close your 3DS and walk around. The next time you open your 3DS, your puppy will give you a gift. The type of gift that you receive depends on how many steps you took on this particular walk. See below for a list of items that you can receive from pedometer mode, along with the number of steps that you need to have accumulated in order to receive the gift.

Warning About Losing Steps

NOTE: Whenever you open your 3DS while you are running Nintendogs + Cats in Pedometer mode, it will reset your steps to 0! Resist the urge to check your steps until you have walked for a long time.
