List of Heart Containers

This page has a list of all the Heart Containers, also known as Pieces of Heart, that you can find in Legend of Zelda.

Requirements: Bomb
Location: Go east from where you started until you reach a screen that has water. Bomb the wall to the left of the northern exit to open a cave. Go in and choose the heart piece.

Requirements: Bomb
Location: In the center of the right side of the map, there is a screen that has Tektites jumping around, and a big rock in the middle. Bomb the right side of the south wall of the rock to open a cave. Go in and choose the piece of heart.

Requirements: Blue Candle or Red Candle
Location: This area is four screens north of the area where you started, but you have to go east, then north three screens, then west to reach it. This screen has water all along the north half of it, and trees all along the south. Use the candle to burn a tree that is to the right of the center. When you burn the right one, stairs appear. Go down and choose the piece of heart.

Requirements: Raft
Location: This piece of heart is near the center of the easternmost side of the map. Go as far east as you can go, but make sure you are in the southern half of the map when you do this. If you go north along the east coast of the map, you will reach a tiny dock. Walk north onto that dock and keep walking north. The raft automatically takes you to a new area. Go into the cave and take the heart piece.

Requirements: Stepladder
Location: This piece of heart is on the east coast of the map, in the southern half of the map. Go as far east as you can go, and go along the coast until you see the piece of heart on a platform in the ocean. With the stepladder, you can just walk straight to it and the ladder will automatically appear under you when you walk over the gaps.

Locations: You get a heart container after defeating the boss in each of the first eight dungeons.

Requirements: None
Location: This piece of heart is under the grave in the northwest corner of the graveyard that is marked by an X below:

Push the grave to reveal the stairs, then go down and take the piece of heart.

Requirements: Whistle
Location: This piece of heart is in the desert, which is in the eastern part of the map. The piece of heart can be found by using the Whistle in the southeast corner of the desert.

Requirements: Whistle
Location: This piece of heart is in the far north part of the map, slightly left of center. To get there, you have to go to the Lost Woods in the southwest part of the map, and go north, west, south, west to go through. From there, go north to the graveyard. Use the east exit to get out of the graveyard, go east again, and go up the east stairs. Go east and go up the stairs, then go east until you reach more stairs. Go up and then go west. Use the Whistle to reveal the stairs where you can get the piece of heart.
